White House Ruin (page 1 of 7)

Distant view from valley floor of some cliff dwellings by the Anasazi Indians. Photo by Howard J. Partridge.

Valley Approach to the White House Ruin
Canyon de Chelly National Monument near Chinle, Arizona

Barely visible in the horizontal alcove at the center of this photograph (just above the trees) is the White House pueblo ruin.  Tall canyon walls tower above it.  It is the only ruin in the park that tourists may see up close without a guide.  This view is along the almost dry, but periodically raging, river that snakes its way through the canyon.  The trail leading from the top of the canyon walls down to the ruin is absolutely spectacular.  Photograph taken in 1991 by Howard J. Partridge.
