Jacques De Weerdt was the architect of the four story house at the center of this photo, built in 1905 and named Les Mouettes.  Jules Hofman was the designer of the sinuous house to its left, the one sporting the curvaceous top.  Both men contributed enormously to the Zurenborg District's fine collection of Art Nouveau homes.  Architect Joseph Bascourt was another prime contributor to this legacy.

The district also contains many fine examples of late 19th and early 20th century eclecticism.  The three story, white Neoclassical building in the foreground of this image shows the Beaux Arts style that was so very much in vogue at the time.  Photograph taken in 1982 by Howard J. Partridge.
