Rear View of the Eliel Saarinen House
Villa Hvitträsk near Luoma, Finland

Several historians mention a Richardsonian influence at Hvitträsk, which can best be seen in the rough stone masonry that makes up its lowest levels.  Seen from this angle, Eliel Saarinen's own house, built between 1901 and 1904, seems to grow directly out of its rocky hillside site.  Photo taken in 1982 by Howard J. Partridge.
