House of the People in Brussels, Belgium

Building constructed from 1896-99 in flamboyant Art Nouveau style, with Victor Horta as the architect.  It served as public meeting house and offices for the up and coming Socialist Party in Belgium.  Architectural historians often describe the demolition of this incredible building in 1965 as one of the greatest architectural crimes of the Twentieth Century.  From an early 1980's Horta Museum postcard.
