Decorative Panel Detail from the East Portico
California State Capitol in Sacramento, California

Sculptor Olof C. Malmquist created a series of aluminum panels for the capitol's East Wing.  Dating from 1950, the bas-reliefs depict scenes extolling California's natural resources, history, and industry.  Machine Age inspired themes of commercial agriculture, transportation, and technology make a strong showing throughout the work.  Photograph by Howard J. Partridge taken in April, 2006.
